Homeopathy – How Does It Work?
In 2009 leading pharmacy Boots confessed that they didn’t believe homeopathic medicine could improve your immune system. Yet, despite this discovery and repeated scientific studies which prove that homeopathy produces no more than placebo , the National Health Service still managed to spend more than 4 million pounds in the last 12 months creating homeopathic medicines.
Astonished by the National Health Services and Boot’s ‘no harm’ theories to homeopathy, over three hundred protestors are now planning to get involved in a huge homeopathic binge to help create public knowledge about the fact that homepathy is ineffectual.
During this revolt, all three hundred protestors will openly swallow in public a complete container of 90 homeopathic pills to show that they are nothing more than fakes and hopefully prompt pharmacies to stop selling them.
What is Homeopathy?
Described by many as an ‘organic herbal medicine’ most of the ingredients found within this complementary herbal medicine are so miniscule that there is nothing medicinal about them.
However further research into the creation of homeopathy has found that it is not strictly an herbal medicine, but is based on 3 central tenets developed in 1796 by Samuel Hahnemann. 3 tenets which are still utilised in the offering of homeopathic pills today:
- The Law of Similars the theory where the cause of your symptoms can also cause them i.e. taking caffeine tablets to cure insomnia
- The Law of Infinitesimals where the more dilute the remedy, the more potent it will become
- The Law of Succession where vigorous stirring of a homeopathic potion would enhance its concentration
Analysing this history, it is easy to see why sceptics of homeopathy are asking the government to command the NIHCE (National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence) to assess whether it is necessary for the National Health Service to pay for homeopathic remedies. Providing restricted if any positive results, all clinical studies have the same conclusion that they will not help your immune system.
