Alternative Herbal Treatment for Constipation

Constipation is a condition which refers to sporadic bowel movements that are generally hard in consistency and often excruciating to eliminate.

According to dietitians, a number of factors can contribute this condition, such as prolonged bed rest, lack of exercise, low intake of fluids and fiber, irregular eating habits, and stress. Other common factors that aggravate, or lead to this condition include taking certain herbhandbook medications like antacids and antihypertensive agents, narcotics and iron supplements.

Changing Your Diet Helps Alleviate This Disorder

For individuals who are diagnosed with constipation or bowel obstruction, you could be suffering from this condition as a result of your lifestyle, so there are different treatment options for you.

One of these is changing your diet, as individuals who have chronic constipation will almost certainly need a change in diets, where it could mean augmenting the amount of fiber intake and eating larger amounts of raw fruits and vegetables, brown wild rice, flaxseeds, bran and whole grain cereals. Implementing an exercise regimen also will help in regulating your bowels, and these types of exercises can be as simple as taking a brisk 15 to 20-minute walk in the morning of evening.

Herbal Alternatives For Alleviating Constipation

At present, many herbal products and food supplements are designed to aid in constipation. However, if you decide to try out a specific herbal remedy, ensure that you talk with your physician first, as some herbal ingredients interfere with the prescription medicines you may be taking. Among the most notable herbs for treating this condition are aloe vera, ginger, senna and yerba mate. Here are other effective herbs for treating bowel obstruction.

- Honey. Honey is considered a natural laxative, and the early Egyptians were prescribed to take honey mixed with warm water-taken every morning for 3 or 4 days, as a cure for constipation.

- Flaxseed Oil. This herbal ingredient aids in softening stools. Freshly-ground flaxseeds are also potent and commonly used.

- Rhubarb Root. This root is useful in relatively small doses as a laxative, and is noted to be safe for use by infants.

- Slippery Elm. This herb is helpful as a laxative and for relieving the stomach as well as the intestines.

In order to effectively alleviate this condition, try to go the bathroom at the same time every day, after meals and as soon as you feel the urge. Remember to never ever hold in a bowel movement. It would also be good to eat foods that are rich in soluble and insoluble fiber.

Soluble fiber also helps to lowering blood cholesterol levels as well as blood sugar levels, and the is commonly found in barley, apples, dried beans, carrots, oats (such as oat bran and oatmeal), oranges, and rye. Insoluble fiber, or roughage, helps to keep your bowel movements regular, and this is common in whole-grain breads and cereals, dried beans, fruits and vegetables with skins, pasta, seeds, and wheat bran. The National Cancer Institute recommends that adults get a daily fiber intake of 20-35 grams.

Health food

Most people know that a well-balanced diet is essential to good health. Understanding what your body needs and the health food that will sustain it is the first step towards living a more vital life.

Health food has been used synonymously with bland, tasteless fare, but this need not be the case any longer. More and more, healthy eating options are being offered that are more accessible to the palate. Eating foods that provide energy, nutrients and other building blocks to keep your body at its optimum level has never been so important, and health food is gaining in world-wide popularity as people become more aware of what they eat.

In our modern times, the stresses of everyday living means that meaning people do not have the time nor inclination towards eating foods that are good for them. Instead of choosing different types of health food that is packed with nutrients and provide long-term energy, many people opt for fast food or snacks that provide nothing but quick energy and empty calories. Not only do this foods lack any nutritional value, they also place you at risk of becoming ill from not getting enough vitamins in your diet.

Doctors and nutrition experts tell you to eat a "balanced diet" which includes a mix of complex carbohydrates, proteins, fruits and vegetables, dairy products and a little amount of fat. All of these can be found in the vast amounts of health food offered in supermarkets today - and these have become tastier, more digestible and less expensive than ever before.

Most supermarkets nowadays offer bins where people can choose the amount of health food they want. These often contain dried fruit, nuts and whole grains that can be purchased more cheaply than pre-packaged food. Introducing raw foods into the diet, such as including food found in its most basic state (such as fruit, vegetables, and whole wheat options) increases the chances of retaining more vitamins and minerals.

If improving your diet is a priority, the first step is to learn how to read food labels. Often products labelled as "health food" contain little or no elements necessary for health. Hydrogenated fats and oils, sugars and a host of chemical additives such as nitrates must now be placed on labels, and it is advisable to check these before purchasing any item that claims to be health food. With a little research, it is easy to find which products offer a more honest itemizing of ingredients that will benefit you.

Finding the right combination of foods to eat may take time, but in the long-term you will benefit in the prevention of disease and illness. Not all health food is alike, and wise consumers should check labels thoroughly and buy food as fresh as possible. Slowly introducing more health food into the diet will allow you to make small changes at first, allowing your body to adjust to the taste and texture of unprocessed food. Over time, you will soon find that your tastes will change, for the better - and that fast food will not taste as good as it once did.

Health and Wellness Check Up

Have you been to the family doctor for a check-up lately? You know how it goes; once you hit the age of 40, they expect you in every year for a general physical. This is a good thing. How else could you monitor your health and wellness? When it comes to taking good care of yourself, there are some things you should focus on. I think every human being alive knows that their health and wellness depends on their lifestyle. Are you doing what it takes to make certain that your body is in proper shape and your heart-rate is sound? If you're not sure, then it's definitely time to find out.

What do you think of when you consider your health and wellness overall. For me, I have to say that my diet and exercise routine comes to mind first and foremost. Now, if you didn't already know it, you are what you eat and what you do. Don't get me wrong; I'm not talking about your career. I am referring to your everyday meals and routines. For example, do you dine out at Burger King each day for lunch? Do you spend your evenings watching television and munching on Cheetos? If this sounds all too familiar, then you may want to re-evaluate your personal health and wellness. It's time to wake up, people! You can't live like this and actually expect to live a long and healthy life. You're basically killing yourself slowly. How about trying a new routine? First of all, you have to alter your diet. No more fast food! The most you should consume this stuff is one meal out of the week. However, I would shoot for once a month. It just isn't healthy. Foods you will want to focus on are fruits, vegetables and fish. These are wonderful for your overall health and wellness. Your body needs those vitamins and minerals. Always make sure to drink loads of water. You can even toss a daily multivitamin in the mix. These are imperative factors to health and wellness. Of course there is the fitness side as well. Every human being needs to adopt some sort of exercise regime. This is essential to your physique, bones and muscles. It's crucial to keep them strong. For more information regarding general health and wellness, you can always log onto your personal computer. WebMD.com is a great site to check out if you have any concerns. Live long and live well.

Alternative Acid Reflux Remedies

There are many alternative acid reflux remedies available, and it seems like there are more being released every day. Although there are plenty of prescription medicines to treat acid reflux, or heartburn as it is often called, more and more it seems that people are turning to acid reflux home remedies as an alternative to these kinds of treatments. I am not really sure why this is so, but acid reflux remedies made of herbs, minerals, and the like are more and more popular as time passes. This seems strange to me, as many of the traditional over the counter acid reflux remedies are made of pretty natural stuff anyway.

I have heard that tums is basically chalk, and I have even heard of activated charcoal being used successfully as an alternative acid reflux remedy. Another alternative treatment for acid reflux is 2 tsp of apple cider vinegar, 1 tsp of raw honey in 8 oz glass of water is one of the best treatment available. So why all of this searching for alternatives when many of the common choices seem to work so well?  An even more important question is: why not use one of the best acid reflux remedies available? By that I mean, why not use a sane, healthy diet that creates less stomach acid. This seems to be the best of the acid reflux remedies which I have come across so far, and I can not be the only one out there who thinks so.

Eating a lot of grains, fresh vegetables and a few fruits, and little fat or grease or meat, can do a lot to treat heartburn. Making sure that you do not overeat, and that you have several small meals over the course of the day rather than just having one great big one can also work wonders for your acid reflux. Also drinking plenty of water reduces stomach acid.  Especially drinking a glass of water before going to bed consistently over the course of time is the cheapest remedy I know of.  People would rather go on just as they always have, eating foods that simply are not that good for them, and then treating the symptoms with  acid reflux remedies, instead of the cause, which is simply unhealthy eating habits. It is enough to make you sick about some people, if you ask me!

Of course, some people really do suffer from acid reflux disease for other reasons than just poor dietary habits. If you are one of these people, and are simply the victim of an overactive stomach, then there is nothing else for it than to treat your condition with the remedies that you find. Otherwise, you are at risk of all kinds of other health problems caused by the excessive stomach acid.

The Infamous Atkins Diet

Oh the infamous Atkins diet, where did you go? There was a time in our not so distant past that this country was absolutely fixated with the Atkins diet. Since that time, carbohydrates have been the enemy. Breads and pastas everywhere cannot find good homes. Muffins and cookies have been left out in the cold. I won't even mention the cruel fate faced by the cupcakes. Why was this anti-carbohydrate diet so popular? More importantly, why was it so powerful? How did it change our nation and its eating philosophy forever?

Perhaps the Atkins diet appealed to so many dieters because it seemed simple. Many dieters prefer to have strict rules and regulations to guide them through weight loss. Meat is good. Carbs are bad. These mantras were heard all around our country. Restaurants saw dramatic changes in what their customers were ordering. Even bars felt the fad as diet coke and bicardi became a slogan and billboards promoting the diet-friendly cocktail sprung up over cities.

We have lived off of grains and carbohydrates for centuries. Why it did take us so long to realize that they are bad for us? I think that many people gravitated toward the Atkins diet because of its meaty foundation. Americans are meat lovers and we prove it every holiday. We have even invented holidays so that we could spend more time by the grill. Meat, meat, meat as an idea was simple and easy to remember.

The focus of meat in the Atkins diet was much easier to implement and more easily accepted than an anti-meat diet would have been. I cannot imagine a large cross-section of America easily letting go of their barbeque anytime soon. The Atkins diet did come under some scrutiny from those that thought it did not do enough to promote the eating of fruits and vegetables. Others believed that a strict no carbohydrate diet was too much for systems that were used to carbs and had been ingesting them all of their lives.

Whether you follow the Atkins diet or another kind of diet, the bottom line is that weight loss equals eating less and exercising more. Regardless of what you eat, you must eat less in order to shed pounds. Weight loss is all about numbers. You want to take in fewer calories and expend more. I do not believe that dieters, unless they have a specific food allergy or complication, have to give up any type of food in order to lose weight. Moderation is the key and determination is a must.

Acid Reflux Remedies that Really Work

There are many alternative acid reflux remedies available, and it seems like there are more being released every day. Although there are plenty of prescription medicines to treat acid reflux, or heartburn as it is often called, more and more it seems that people are turning to acid reflux home remedies as an alternative to these kinds of treatments. I am not really sure why this is so, but acid reflux remedies made of herbs, minerals, and the like are becoming more and more popular as time passes.

Now majority of us uses tums for heartburn but it is basically chalk. Did you know that antacid causes you to lose your libido? So lets look at some alternative remedies and information that is available.  I have heard of activated charcoal being used successfully as an alternative acid reflux remedy. Another alternative treatment for acid reflux is 2 tsp of Braggs apple cider vinegar, 1 tsp of raw honey (not processed) in 8 oz glass of water is one of the best treatment available.  Drink it cold or make it as a hot tea. It is absolutely delicious. This remedy alone stopped my husband's heartburn. I forgot about chewable DGL (Licorice Root) 20 minutes before meals and before going to bed at night also stops acid reflux.  These remedies surely work but they are short term solutions.  That 's why I strongly recommend Cure Your Heartburn for long term solution.

Now let's talk about a healthy diet.  Eating a lot of grains, fresh vegetables and a few fruits, and little fat or grease or meat, can do a lot to treat heartburn. Making sure that you do not overeat, and that you have several small meals over the course of the day rather than just having one great big one can also work wonders for your acid reflux.
