Health food

Most people know that a well-balanced diet is essential to good health. Understanding what your body needs and the health food that will sustain it is the first step towards living a more vital life.

Health food has been used synonymously with bland, tasteless fare, but this need not be the case any longer. More and more, healthy eating options are being offered that are more accessible to the palate. Eating foods that provide energy, nutrients and other building blocks to keep your body at its optimum level has never been so important, and health food is gaining in world-wide popularity as people become more aware of what they eat.

In our modern times, the stresses of everyday living means that meaning people do not have the time nor inclination towards eating foods that are good for them. Instead of choosing different types of health food that is packed with nutrients and provide long-term energy, many people opt for fast food or snacks that provide nothing but quick energy and empty calories. Not only do this foods lack any nutritional value, they also place you at risk of becoming ill from not getting enough vitamins in your diet.

Doctors and nutrition experts tell you to eat a "balanced diet" which includes a mix of complex carbohydrates, proteins, fruits and vegetables, dairy products and a little amount of fat. All of these can be found in the vast amounts of health food offered in supermarkets today - and these have become tastier, more digestible and less expensive than ever before.

Most supermarkets nowadays offer bins where people can choose the amount of health food they want. These often contain dried fruit, nuts and whole grains that can be purchased more cheaply than pre-packaged food. Introducing raw foods into the diet, such as including food found in its most basic state (such as fruit, vegetables, and whole wheat options) increases the chances of retaining more vitamins and minerals.

If improving your diet is a priority, the first step is to learn how to read food labels. Often products labelled as "health food" contain little or no elements necessary for health. Hydrogenated fats and oils, sugars and a host of chemical additives such as nitrates must now be placed on labels, and it is advisable to check these before purchasing any item that claims to be health food. With a little research, it is easy to find which products offer a more honest itemizing of ingredients that will benefit you.

Finding the right combination of foods to eat may take time, but in the long-term you will benefit in the prevention of disease and illness. Not all health food is alike, and wise consumers should check labels thoroughly and buy food as fresh as possible. Slowly introducing more health food into the diet will allow you to make small changes at first, allowing your body to adjust to the taste and texture of unprocessed food. Over time, you will soon find that your tastes will change, for the better - and that fast food will not taste as good as it once did.

Health Farms vs Luxury Spas

I've always wanted someone to surprise me with a week's vacation in a luxury spa or one of the health farms. It would be great to be RawFood_1 pampered and I can't think of anything more chilling. It would have to be in a beautiful location, perhaps set in a forest with a lake. The accommodation and facilities would be first class and the food would be healthy but tasty.  Really, health farms should be a government funded benefit that everyone gets in turn.

They are big business these days for individuals, couples and corporate use. Companies want their stressed executives to go back refreshed and raring to go. You can buy them as Gift Experience days for other people.

My fantasy is women lying on sun beds with cucumbers on their eyes and handsome, toned men giving massages, for therapeutic purposes of course. I would love to soak in one of those hydrotherapy spas they have at health farms. It would be getting fit but in luxurious surroundings with fresh fruits and vegetables galore. The mornings could be spent swimming a few laps in the pool, followed by a manicure, pedicure and facial. I guess that's where the cucumbers come in.

In the afternoons, I would do a workout in the gym, followed by a massage to ease any strain from my muscles. Then, perhaps a leisurely sauna. All this would be regularly punctuated by gorgeous fat free appetizing foods filled with vitamins and nutrients to revive the soul. I know that health farms used to have a reputation for half rations but I think it's different today. At least I hope so. I think the fees are too much for any of them not to feed you. Otherwise, I'd be tunneling out to the nearest fried chicken joint.

The main reason for people going to these establishments has shifted over the years. It was mostly women who wanted to lose weight who went. That's still a reason for some people, but I think there's more focus on taking a relaxing break now than for shedding pounds. Some people may still be offended if you suggested they spend time at health farms, if they thought it was a not too subtle way of saying they should lose a few. Be careful when buying such a gift that it won't be thrown back in your face.

So, I shall put it on my presents wish list, underneath a trip to Paris, and above a dishwasher. The only trouble is that I may just have such a good time that I won't want to come back.  Well if you can't afford a health farm trip why not revive your health with a raw food diet.  How to Live the Aloha Joy Raw Food Diet takes you from sluggish and unhealthy lifestyle to a healthy and successful lifestyle.  Check out the Raw Food Diet by Christopher Westra.

How Do You Feel About Diet Pills?

I just got done with taking these horribly huge diet pills for two months now. I have only lost 4 pounds. The advertisements for these diet pills promised me at least 10 pounds a month. I should have lost 20 pounds, not a measly 4. As you can guess, I'm not a happy person and still heavier than what I would like to be. My doctor said that I need to exercise and eat properly while I'm taking diet pills. I suppose it doesn't matter that the commercials and advertisements don't mention that I need to do anything more than swallow the pills. Apparently, we are just supposed to assume that when we take diet pills, we need to exercise and eat healthy. Imagine that.

I wasn't a big fan of the diet pills. For one thing, they were huge and left a strange taste in my mouth. I had some get stuck in my throat at various times and made life pretty uncomfortable for a few hours. Those diet pills also disrupted my life somewhat. I battled constipation or upset stomachs for a few weeks. There was no happy medium. I felt tired at some time and other times I think that the diet pills actually made me jittery. It was not always a comfortable feeling.

My husband thought that I was crazy for having actually ordered diet pills in the first place. He is very much a pessimist when it comes to losing weight. He was not convinced that diet pills actually work and after my tiny weight loss, he remains convinced. I can't say that I don't have my major doubts now as well. I'm only about 20 pounds heavier than I would like to be. My husband isn't complaining but I want to like what I see when I look in the mirror. Right now, I'm too critical of myself and find very little time to exercise. I work a full-time job and a part-time job and junk food has become my comfort. I had this crazy idea that if I made myself take diet pills every time I wanted to give in to a craving, but that didn't last too long. When it comes to food, I am weak. I thought that diet pills would somehow curb my food cravings and enthusiasm for eating. Obviously, that did not work in the least.

I've decided that diet pills simply will not work for me. I will settle for taking the stairs instead of the elevator and parking further away in the parking lot. I will just have to snack on some healthier food throughout my day and not carry any spare change for the vending machines. I will alter my lifestyle and perhaps I won't need to use the diet pills. I can find success without them.

For some odd reason, people insist on eating quick, fatty foods. I laughed the other day when my teenage daughter was talking about her job at the grocery store. She looked me dead in the eye and said "Man, people really are what they eat!" She told me about all the obese folks that come through her line buying only junk food and frozen meals. Then there are the few that purchase all health food and their in great shape and look vibrant. I believe that was a serious wake-up call for her. She no longer doubts the benefits of a healthy eating routine. These days since so many people have let themselves get way overweight, a whole slew of cholesterol lowering diets have hit the food scene. I honestly think this is a warning/wake-up call that should be heeded by every human being. We all know that high cholesterol can lead to a heart attack or stroke. By then it may be too late. Do you really want to be that person on the news that kicked the bucket at the age of 42? This is a sad reality for those who eat poorly and disregard the cholesterol lowering diets.

Using a Liver Cleanser

If you are interested in keeping your body healthy, then you should find out more information about using a liver cleanser especially if you have already been diagnosed with liver disease.  The liver is an important organ in the body, and if your liver fails, or is riddled with disease, you will lose, at the very least, the ability to enjoy your life to the fullest.  Liver disease, if left unopposed, will even cause death.  Because the liver is so important, let’s see how easy it is to find and use a liver cleanser.

Finding a liver cleanser will be easy when you know where to look.  The first place you should start is your heath food store.  Besides being able to buy any products you will need, health food stores are also a great place to get information.  You will often find free pamphlets that will educate you about the latest findings of diseases and how to treat them.  The employees in most health food stores will be able to give you advice about the most popular liver cleansers and how to use them.  One such popular liver cleanser is milk thistle.

Milk thistle is a liver detoxifier that relieves congestion of the liver, spleen, and kidneys. Today, several scientific studies suggest that active substances in milk thistle (particularly silymarin) protect the liver from damage caused by viruses, toxins, alcohol, and certain drugs such as acetaminophen (a common over the counter medication used for headaches and pain; acetaminophen, also called paracetamol, can cause liver damage if taken in large quantities or by people who drink alcohol regularly.)

You may also want to try an internet search when getting more information about a liver cleanser.  If you are able to find a forum about liver cleansers, or cleansers in general, you will be able to ask your questions and get the advice of many people that have already tried different products.   If you have a particular product in mind that you want to use, you may be able to find testimonials of how it worked for previous consumers.  The internet will also give you a larger selection of places to order your liver cleanser from.  Be sure to read the ingredients of each product and research these ingredients so you are confident you are getting the best liver cleanser for you.

When using a liver cleanser, you should feel comfortable with the product and the process.  If you are unsure of how to use one, or you want professional help, be sure to consult with a doctor before trying the product.  They may be able to tell you about another product or option that you weren’t aware of.

Update on the Atkins Diet

There are many low carbohydrate diet options available now to anyone who wants to lose weight and learn to improve eating habits and keep the weight off. The Atkins Diet is one of the most popular low carb diets around, and people who have used it have been very successful in meeting their weight loss goals. Dieting isn't easy for anyone, and sometimes traditional dieting approaches, such as counting calories just isn't enough. Of course, every diet should be accompanied by plenty of exercise to make the weight come off faster and stay off. The Atkins Diet teaches dieters how to eat more protein and fat, and limit starches, carbohydrates, and sugars. The Atkins Diet is also a great way to get off that glucose roller coaster, and keep blood sugar levels more constant without crazy fluctuations.

The Atkins Diet works by strictly limiting carbohydrate intake and increasing protein and fats in the diet. By taking this approach, the body does not have the carbohydrates to burn first, so it burns fat instead. It may seem crazy to some to eat butter and other fats on a diet, but it is really the carbohydrates that keep people from reaching their weight loss goals. The Atkins Diet isn't just a fad diet scam. It has been around since the early 1970s and even though it is controversial, Atkins Diet books have been and remain to be phenomenal best sellers. In addition to the multitude of weight loss success stories, the Atkins Diet is great for disease prevention, weight loss maintenance, and good health. Dieters have a number of food options available to them and the amount of food eaten is not restricted, only the types of foods. No refined sugars are allowed, or white potatoes, white rice, or white flour. Meats, cheeses, fats, and proteins are all acceptable food options on the Atkins Diet.

The first two weeks on the Atkins Diet are the most restricted, in which only twenty grams of carbohydrates are allowed (carbs less grams of fiber). Fruits are not allowed and only a few leafy green vegetables. During this period, the change in biochemical activity is supposed to jump start the weight loss mechanism. Many people see significant results during this time frame, which gives them the added encouragement dieters need to continue with the diet and meet their weight loss goals. Many people have had great results with the Atkins Diet, but it isn't for everyone. If you have any concerns consult your health care provider before beginning this or any restricted diet. For more information on the Atkins Diet visit www.atkins.com.
