Aromatherapy Does More Than Just Smell Good

Share

Turbulent times and hectic, sometimes overwhelming schedules take a real toll on our bodies and minds. Prolonged elevated stress levels can adversely affect organ and brain performance, depress mood and significantly reduce sleep – all of which can have devastating effects on a person’s general over time. Traditionally, the in have been a true respite for many who are wary of today’s often over-prescribed antidepressants and anxiety medications.

Aromatherapy at its basis, like the word implies, works by stimulating nerves inside the nose to produce responses in the brain, primarily in the limbic system. Creating a calming effect in the limbic system is crucial because that area of the brain regulates emotion, motivation, and the release of chemicals and hormones. It also plays a large part in controlling heart rate and blood pressure. Scientists are not sure exactly how essential oils work to improve health, but they do say that aromatherapy ingredients are complementary modalities that likely trigger responses inside the body and brain to help the body heal itself.

have actual direct pharmacological effects when ingested or used as a part of a healthy meal plan.

A bit of caution is required when ingesting or cooking with essential oils however. Some oils, such as eucalyptus, hyssop, sage, lavender and others can be toxic when ingested or even applied to the skin in sufficiently large doses. Proper dilution of the ingredients can make them safe and beneficial however. Check labels or seek advice from a pharmacist or physician, or consult the many low calorie recipe books available.

Another organic compound is now being widely used with essential oils to create naturally sweet recipes that have , in addition to being great tasting. Xylitol, which is essentially sugar alcohol, is created by hydrogenating sugar, and the result is a sweetener with a third of sugar’s calories and a host of tremendous health benefits. , diabetes, infections, and bone health can all be improved with the ingestion of xylitol.

Foods incorporating xylitol and aromatherapy ingredients are really beginning to take hold. There are countless recipes incorporating essential oils, and products are springing up everywhere. Syrups that can be put on breads and pancakes or added to recipes make featuring essential oils in your diet easy. Cancer patients and survivors can especially benefit from the syrups because the xylitol actually reduces blood sugar levels and does not feed cancer cells like regular sugar.

Owen Walcher lives in Glenwood Springs, CO where Sophisticated Syrups were invented.

What makes Sophisticated Syrups unique is that they are sweetened with US grown organic xylitol from Birch trees, and they are flavored with therapeutic grade, ingestible . The syrups contain the aroma and effect of the aromatherapies they contain. All ingredients are of the highest quality obtainable and are bottled in glass. Currently there are 5 flavors.

Hcg Diet Recipes Questions Answered

Share

George asks…

– any good meat recipes out there?

Does anyone have any good recipes for the meat portions? I bought a George Foreman grill to grill meats, and of course my oven to bake. But does anyone know any good recipes out there? Because I know you can’t use alot of marinades and sauces and stuff like that. Any good spices to use? Things like that. I don’t want just plain bland meat with no flavor!

THANK YOU!!!

:

You can grill sausage, pork chops, chicken, burgers…. As far as spices, I like Morton’s seasoning blend and Mrs’ Dash garlic and , but with Mrs’ Dash you have to add your own salt.

Mandy asks…

Can anyone help me out with a few Hcg Phase 2 Recipes?

I started the Hcg diet on 3-22 I am already down 14 pounds so im doing pretty well if I do say so myself. I just need different meal ideas. So please feel free to share your ideas. Thanks!

Chloe Adisson answers:

I have no idea, really. I just started the diet (injections) ]last week. I came here to search the same info. Do you like seafood? I bought some large sea scallops, and lemon and are allowed on my program, so it’s an okay and different protein option if you like seafood.
So far I’ve had beef, tuna and cod.
I’m having trouble with the vegetables. I LOVE veggies, but I’m only allowed 9 or so on my plan, and there are only about 3 I like. There is only so much spinach and tomato I can eat, you know?
Oh, I haven’t tried it yet, but my plan allows egg whites. I guess you could make an omelet and add onion or spinach to it.
Congrats on your weight loss! It sounds like you are doing well!

Put asparagus with a little of the broth in blender, puree til smooth, place back in pan. Dice chicken into cubes, and pan sear with additional curry, coriander and cumin, if desired. Place chicken back into soup and stir well. Let it cook down to desired consistency if it’s too watery.

1 cup water
1-2 T cayenne pepper
1-2 T chili powder (adjust as needed)
Frank’s Original Red Hot Sauce

In small bowl, mix vinegar, water, and cayenne pepper. Add chicken to marinade and refrigerate for 1-2 hrs. Preheat oven to 350. Add chili powder to a small dish and dip chicken in chili powder. Place on rack in baking pan. Bake 15-20 minutes, turning halfway through. Serve immediately with Frank’s Original Red Hot Sauce.

Makes 4 portions. It is wonderful sliced over salad greens.

1 protein

Sweet-n-Spicy Chicken Wraps
100 grams of chicken
4 Cabbage leaves whole
1 Small Gala apple cored and chopped
2 TBSP of Braggs Liquid Amino Acids
Water
1 TBSP Tabasco Course Ground Mustard
2 gloves of garlic minced

Add Cabbage leaves one at a time just to cook until cabbage leaf is tender and plyable. (You may want to remove the hard veins of larger leaves.) As they are done remove and set aside.

Once the chicken is completely cooked remove from the pan, let it cool, and chop it up, retaining the juices. To those juices, add the minced garlic 1 TBSP of mustard and about 2 TBSP of organic beef or chicken broth. Bring to boil and cook your apples in this mixture. Nancy asks…

Where to buy drops?

I’m currently in preparation for the HCG diet. I want to loose 40lbs by October. I would like to know a few things from people who have used HCG in the past. Where to buy real HCG diet drops? Please specify what brand of you used. How to make the diet easier? Any good recipes and foods to eat with the HCG diet would be helpful as well.

Chloe Adisson answers:

I tried Green Web hCG about 6 months ago and did not have a good experience at all. After sharing my experiences on a weight loss forum someone recommended Pharmaslim HCG and directed me to their blog where they recorded all of they’re meals and weigh-ins day by day while using Pharmaslim. I was impressed so i ordered a bottle in April and dropped 25 lbs in the first 42 day cycle. Pharmaslim HCG is one of the only formulas available that offers a money back guarantee. Highly recommended, just be sure to prepare yourself for the diet, believe me it can be very hard to limit yourself to 500 calories per day.

Anise and Star Anise – Do You Know The Difference?

Share

By Terri Atwell Platinum Quality Author Terri Atwell
Level: Platinum

Terri is a registered nurse with 37+ years in the profession. Her interests include gardening, reading British murder mysteries and historical fiction, and spoiling two …

WOW! Thanksgiving is over and it is less than four weeks until Christmas! I really need to get moving and finish the Christmas shopping, since half of the gifts need to be shipped to another state. Signs of the season are everywhere-at the mall, decorations on private residences, town streets and grocery stores. Archway already has its seasonal cookies out. I really love the pfeffernusse cookies with their flavor. I’ve never made them myself, but I did attempt springerle one year-disaster! Springerle are also flavored with , and are rolled out with a special rolling pin that has decorations engraved on it. Mine came out hard as a rock-if you hit somebody with one you’d probably kill them, or at least fracture their skull. I haven’t lived that disaster down yet!

Anise (Pimpinella anisum) is a plant related to the common parsley and carrot. It is mostly grown in the eastern region of the Mediterranean and southwest Asia. The seed pods are known as anise seed and the flavor is similar to licorice, fennel and tarragon. I never connected the flavors of anise and tarragon but on reflection I realized that there is a similarity there between the two. No wonder tarragon is a favorite of mine. Star anise (Illicium verum) is obtained from the star-shaped fruit of a small evergreen tree native to China. This spice’s flavor is similar to anise although the two spices are unrelated. Both spices contain the same ingredient, anethole, in their , which is what gives the spices their flavor. Anise and star anise are widely used in cooking, baking and liquor production, but since it is less expensive to produce star anise, this spice is gradually replacing anise in a lot of markets.

Both anise and star anise are used for a variety of medicinal purposes. Each spice can be used as a digestive aid: for indigestion, nausea, prevent gas formation or help in getting rid of the gas. They are also helpful for rheumatism and coughs. Since both spices contain anethole, which is classified as a phytoestrogen (foreign substance that has estrogen-like effects), it is recommended that women who are pregnant avoid using them for purposes. Using a small amount of the spices for flavoring foods is not harmful to the pregnant woman. For uses anise and anise star can be taken in teas, in food or by chewing the seeds. They can also be mixed with carrier oils and be applied topically.

Anise is useful in a variety of respiratory diseases, such as asthma, whooping cough, and bronchitis. A topical application is helpful in treating skin disorders such as oiliness, scabies and lice. Chewing the seeds help freshen breath and remedy insomnia. Because anise has an antiseptic quality it was used briefly during the Civil War for this purpose; however it was discovered to cause high levels of toxicity in the blood and was subsequently discontinued. The liquid scent is used by fishermen on lures to attract fish. During the years when steam locomotives dominated the rails, capsules of aniseed oil were placed among the metal bearings so that the railroad worker would be alerted to overheating by its strong distinctive .

Star anise contains shikimic acid, a primary component in the anti-influenza drug Tamiflu–star anise is the industrial source for this ingredient. There was actually a temporary shortage of star anise a few years back when the demand for the drug Tamiflu was high. Reports surfaced stating that some people had severe illness after drinking star anise tea. This is thought to be due to the erroneous use of Japanese star anise (Illicium anisatum). Japanese star anise is from a similar tree, but is highly toxic. Ingesting this substance causes severe neurological effects (seizures) and also affects renal and digestive systems.

Anise and star anise are two wonderful spices that can be used in your Holiday baking and cooking. Take advantage of their essential oils this cold and flu season; and if you eat too much during the festivities and develop indigestion, just get out the seeds and chew on them for relief. If you are really into baking special treats, try springerle. I haven’t had the courage to try them again!

After being in nursing for many years, I decided to retire from nursing and devote my time to my web business. TLC is so much a part of me, and I am working hard to help people feel better about themselves–body, mind and soul. The business I started is called KKAT VENTURES LLC and the web URL is http://www.peacefulbeing.net/ I am also a grandmother of three adorable children (what grandmother doesn’t say this!!!). I enjoy gardening, reading, especially British murder mysteries and historical fiction, and crosswords and Sudoku. And yes, I have a cat!

Herbal Treatment For Adhd Questions Answered

Share

Jenny asks…

ADHD diagnosis?

My son has recently been diagnosed with ADHD. He was prescribed Ritalin at the drop of a hat, but after reading about the medication, and seeing the look of horror on people’s faces when I told them, I have decided he wont take it. I have ordered something called Synaptol, which is some herbal treatment for ADHD, it sounds good, but I have no idea. My son is also going to visit a complementary centre tomorrow, but I just wondered if anyone has any views or can recommend anything I can try. I dont want to go down the Ritalin road, it sounds like a really gruesome drug.

:

Very long answer.. And I promise it is not a cut and paste quickie.. (I hate those)

First of all… Awesome :) good for you!
Finally a parent on this planet with some common sense.
Drugs are drugs and more parents should be encouraging their kids to stay away from them..
I am certainly not a doctor, but I can’t understand the logic of giving a brain stimulant to a person with hyperactivity issues.
A child has a brain that is naturally growing and developing.. Adding a bunch of synthetic chemcals seems to only complicate matters. The behavior may change for the better.. But does the improvement justify the potential damage? Personally, I don’t think it does. I am sure there are a small percentage of kids out there that need some kind of drastic treatment… Little things like not cleaning up your room when asked to, or not doing well on schoolwork should not be interpretated as an indicaton that medical treatment options are mandatory and risky steps should be taken immediately.
Most behavioral issues fall under the responsibility of the parent or teacher, but it seems that psychiatrists are far too willing to offer everyone the easy way out of this responsibility by dropping a label on these kids and drugging them up so they will conform. And that is just sick.
I was doing some research for my sister and found another option for online while I was looking through alternative medicines for my nephew last year.. It is probably very similar to what you have found.

He is 13 now.. Seems to be doing better. A lot of his issues are stress related.. His father has been in the service and away from home for the last 3 years.. It is rough on him. He also has some kind of odd dietary abnormality.. Naturally sensitive to certain foods. He is a very healthy kid with a great personality :)

I will also throw you a link to read up on some of the prescriptions that are being offered to children for a variety of afflictions. It is somewhat jaded and loaded with propaganda from the opposite perspective of the drug manufacturers. Really is a fascinating debate. And the questions left unanswered is the reason I am so against the idea that medication is solution.

The reality is that nothing can be done to cure the problem until the true cause for the problem can be determined. And right now everybody is guessing.. The drug companines are rushing to convince the public that they have the answer to it without a shred of conclusive evidence as proof of their statements. The FDA that approves the medications is majorly sponsored by the drug companies for their funding. (blatent conflict of interest). The psychaitrists are stuck in a position where if they don’t prescribe something, they are taking the risk that the parents will lose confidence in that entire section of the medical field. Everyone involved with the debate is horribly tainted by money.. And the kids are typically left with the negative consequences for the decisions made by the adults with the moral obligation to protect them. Alternative may or may not be as effective.. But at least it is . That makes more sense to me as a first option.
I encourage you to get a couple opinions before you choose any course of action for your child.. The treatment options out there right now are very shady for these types of things. Not enough is known about it.
Research all you can on it.. There is a lot of good information out there from the perspective of the parents that are in a similar situation. Both sides of the debate have valid points.

A lot of it is a shift in society .. 20 years ago, the general perception would have been.. ‘ahh.. It’s ok.. He’s just a kid being a kid’ .. And today it is more like ‘wow.. Your kid is a spoiled brat.. You should really do something about it’
Same child.. Different decade.
Experimental drugs may always be an option, but try everything else first.. If an adult wants to be irresponsible and ruin their lives by being a drug addict.. So be it.. I am also a parent.. And my daughter would have to be VERY out of control for me to even consider it. Dangerous and destructive, yes.. I would consider it.. Anything less, no way.

In the interest of fairness, I will also give you the medical side of things and leave you to make your own informed decision..

This website will give you the clinical perspective on the affliction .. And symptom/treatment/prognosis information

http://www.drugs.com/condition/attention-deficit-disorder.html

This website will give you all of the prescription information for every drug that is FDA approved to treat ADD/ADHD.

Yes, there are a lot of things that anybody can say against what I have written.. But, you don’t have to be a doctor to understand that when the negative side effects of a drug show a 400-600% increased chance of occurence over placebo, you are taking an unnecessary risk. When that statistic comes down to reasonable levels and can be independently proven.. My opinion will change dramatically.

Mary asks…

what is the best known nonmedicinal treatment for ADHD?

herbal or nonherbal treatments for ADHD

Chloe Adisson answers:

A great deal of benefit is gained by removing all additives and preservatives from the diet.

There have been studies done to show that 80% of children with ADHD make huge improvements just by changing diet.

It means cutting out all fizzy drinks, all colourants (they are in many foods and drinks) , especially sunshine yellow. All additives.

Just use natural foods, meat, fish, fruit and vegetables.

Laura asks…

What is the best alternative treatment for ADHD?

Herbal only. Liver, gal bladder cleanse. No drugs. Specific products please. Hoping to shorten my research a little.
Stop arguing that cleanses are bad. They are great if you know what you are doing. The right ones do work, unlike drugs that cure symptoms only. Cure your illness, not hide it.
Yes there is such a thing. I agree that usually it is bad parenting, in which this is somewhat. As a Foster parent I know your feeling all too well
True ADHD is usually caused by the mother eating and drinking too much sugar and caffeine. Stop drink mountain dew and whatever while pregnant. Stop smoking/drinking, dying hair. Sacrifice a little for your baby.

Chloe Adisson answers:

There have actually been a lot of studies that have shown that Fish Oil can help with ADD/ADHD. It seems too simple, and that may be one reason it wasn’t really looked at closely for this, but I wasn’t surprised it would help when I thought about it. The EPA and DHA in Fish Oil help with all sorts of things including heart health, skin health, and brain health. There was a good article at http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-391503/Fish-oil-calms-children-better-Ritalin.html that covers some of this as well.
Give it a try… It’s economical, safe, and easy. Just make sure that the company you get it from uses Molecular Distillation because that’s currently the only safe way to remove any trace contaminants of any heavy metals. Of course, if you aren’t sure about the dosage or the benefits, you may want to consult with a holistic doctor, as they may have other additional options available to them.

There are also a lot of people who have found some relief from limiting sugar, artificial colors/flavorings, and going with less (or no) processed food to take away those possible causes as well. From research I’ve done, Fish Oil tends to help more, but both work even better together. Good luck and I hope I helped!

Donald asks…

ADHD called “alphanie” (sp?)?

I heard a doctor on TV talking about an herbal treatment for ADD/ADHD. He pronounced it “alphanie” but I don’t know the proper spelling, so I can’t look up any information about it. Has anyone heard of this treatment? Do you know how it is properly spelled? Thanks!

Chloe Adisson answers:

Not sure, but I’ve found this:

and . A number of parents resort to alternative as an alternative to psychostimulants and other drugs. These products include- as St. John? ‘ s wort, ginkgo biloba, panax ginseng, melatonin, and pine bark extract. Based on existing evidence, however, none can be recommended, particularly for children.

Generally, manufacturers of herbal remedies and dietary supplements do not need FDA approval to sell their products. Just like a drug, herbs and supplements can affect the body’s chemistry, and therefore have the potential to produce side effects that may be harmful. There have been a number of reported cases of serious and even lethal side effects from herbal products. Always check with your doctor before using any herbal remedies or dietary supplements.”

There’s lots of sites on the net selling invented ‘cures’ to concerned parents. These are nothing more than modern snake oil, so be careful.

Daniel asks…

A miracle treatment?

My 5 yo son has been diagnosed with ADHD-combined type and ODD recently. Its been recommended to us to put him on medication. I have been doing some reading on the different types of available medications and I have to say, they ALL scare me! The side effects are atrocious with some of these medications. So, I have done some searching and came accross a herbal treatment called “Focus ADHD“. What caught my eye is the tons of testimonials posted on the site for this drug, and some of them (the testimonials) brought me to tears. Has anyone tried this herbal supplement/treatment? If so, did it work well? Did it have any side effects? Also, has anyone had TRUE success with any of the traditional meds prescribed for ADHD (such as Ritalin, Strattera, etc.)? Any advice or help is greatly appreciated, Thanks!
Some more info–This product comes with a “dietary strategy” for parents, and tons of parental advice. In addition to taking the supplement, it says to make the following diet changes-eliminate refined sugars, soft drinks, artificial preservatives, artificial colors and “bad fats” (like trans-fat). It also recommends plenty of exercise and claims to be 100% natural, and completely not addictive, its safe enough to take forever if need be. I also have made a doctor’s appointment for Monday morning to discuss this product. Judging by the great answers I have gotton so far, this supplement is definitely worth a try. Thank you so much!

Chloe Adisson answers:

Yes, diet is really important. Also, less time in front of the tv, computer, playing games etc.
Although it is disputed by some people now, I still believe white sugar, especially at the rate north americans consume it, is not a healthy thing. Many people are also reactive to food dyes, artificial chemicals, preservatives etc.
I’m so glad to hear you are not going the pharmaceutical route.
Please watch the eye opening video below, you may want to send it to your friends. As well as school officials, who have no business in making a medical diagnosis.
But to actually answer your question, I am not familiar with Focus ADHD.

Healthy Tips For Health Nuts

Share

You will find hundreds of organic which have been shown to be of benefit to human , but time and money frequently limit the quantity that one person can take. All correctly researched and developed supplementations are high-quality, although some stand out. This is not because they’re complex or unique, but because they’re so incredibly useful in sustaining and restoring wellbeing.

1 of these is fish oil. Fish oils are beneficial sources of Omega-3 fatty acids, substances which are critical to our health but which the human body is not capable to manufacture internally. Omega-3 isn’t bountiful in most foods and is usually removed from refined foods because the oils that contain it go bad quickly devoid of refrigeration.

Because fish oil is fragile, carefulness has to be taken to select a brand which has scientific proof that its oils are clean, free from toxins, as well as undamaged during processing and delivery. Fish oil is available in flavored and unflavored liquids, within capsules, as well as in wild caught fish such as salmon and true sardines. A number of highly regarded corporations process it in a way to avoid the digestive distress that fish oil might bring about, or similar valuable benefits can be provided from oils from krill or additional forms of sea life.

Finally, an animal type of Omega-3 may be further bio-available then that of vegetable or seed oils, like flaxseed. The benefits of Omega-3 supplementation constitute enhanced blood triglyceride levels, decreased danger of stroke and heart attack, enhanced brain development in infants and brain function in adults, and fewer joint and skin problems.

There are many different alternatives for nutritional supplements including beta carotene. This important substance present in carrots and other colorful vegetables is used for several defensive functions inside your body. Your body is additionally able to convert it into A if that nutrient is absent. This means that you can circumvent taking too much A but still obtain all you need. A is very important for vision, skin health, and for battling infection within your system. It could be coincidence, however numerous kids who are given low dose beta carotene quite a few times a day when they have got a sore throat never develop strep.

Magnesium is another supplement, a mineral this time, of which it’s hard to say too much. Lots of people are not discerning that calcium cannot be properly used in the body devoid of adequate amounts of magnesium and other minerals. Because of this reason, supplementing calcium alone could be a misuse of money and time, and may even have damaging effects. Soft tissue deposits of calcium imply a lack of magnesium.

Magnesium is a water soluble nutrient. Meaning you cannot take too much without knowing it, because the body will eradicate the surplus as diarrhea. For those who have an extraordinarily elevated requirement for magnesium, you can take as much as your body can absorb. Scientists have discovered over 300 bodily processes that can’t be effectively distributed when magnesium is insufficient.

Magnesium is found plentifully in leafy green vegetables and nuts, as well as in less significant amounts in other foods. A lot of people in developed countries depend on dairy products and meat as the bulk of their diet. This means that there is ample calcium within their diet if their bodies had sufficient magnesium to use it. Low bone density is often more a sign to add magnesium then to supplement calcium.

It is possible to check out this information online and in health books and magazines. If you find 4 or five confirmations of health suggestions from reputable resources, you may be pretty positive the advice is sound. Then it’s up to you to make use of it for improved health.

Brenda Hughes is a greatly experienced critic conversing about health care products including supplements, nori seaweed nutritional supplements, and kelp supplements in addition to dispersing the knowledge to people to use supplements and medical products for the purpose of improving the general healthiness and physical condition of people all over the planet.

You’ll have your pick of ceramic, plastic, terra cotta, and wood in varying shapes and sizes ranging from everything from the enormous container that is meant to be stationery to the smaller, portable type that can be moved about easily. Mixed Herbs

Yet another great thing about fresh herb gardening is that herbs can be planted along side other varieties in a relatively small area, giving you the opportunity to enjoy a heady aroma and gorgeous display of color and texture in one single space. One thing to keep in mind is planting mint by itself as this overzealous plant tends to overrun all of its neighbors.

For the most functional mixes, plant like herbs together in terms of their use or purpose. For example, if you’re planting culinary herbs, use those that would be combined together in similar recipes, like spaghetti or other pasta dishes. Here are some of the most often used combinations that you’ll often find packaged together in kits at home and garden centers, greenhouses, or nurseries:

* Italian cuisine – Sweet basil, oregano, marjoram, thyme and Italian parsley

* Italian Cuisine Mixture: Sweet basil, Italian parsley, marjoram, oregano, thyme

* French Cuisine Mixture: Chervil, chives, parsley, sage, tarragon

* For aroma plant lavender, lemon balm, lemon thyme, and pineapple sage

Choose the one that suits your tastes and needs the best, or even better, have one of every type to enjoy all of their many unique benefits.

Helpful Hints for Beginners

If you’re just starting to dabble in fresh herb gardening, remember these helpful hints to ensure your first foray in the interesting world of nature is a successful one. Always keep your herbs pruned to allow for better growth before transferring to larger containers, or, thin your crops regularly so that containers or plots aren’t overcrowded.

Also, try to extend their lives by feeding with liquid plant food albeit at half the strength for regular plants. Fourth, never over water the herbs since it can result in soggy roots. Instead, regularly check to make sure that the topmost soil is just damp, neither soggy nor bone dry. Fifth, just cut down the herbs when you see evidence of aphids and red spiders.

Keeping all of these helpful hints in mind you should be able to enjoy a bountiful crop along with delicious salads and other healthy foods thanks to your fresh herb gardening efforts.
