Low Impact Ways To Lose Weight
We know that diet and exercise are the keys to getting in shape and staying healthy. But for those who have been unable to maintain this lifestyle due to an injury or other life events, it can be very difficult to begin an exercise regime. Don’t let the image of a military-style of basic training exercise regime scare you off. There are other ways to exercise.
If you watch any of the television shows featuring overweight people competing to lose weight, you may well believe that weight loss requires an intense exercise regime that is nigh impossible to maintain. The people competing in these shows have the time to exercise as much as they are told to, the commitment to push themselves – particularly as people are watching them on TV – and the show’s producers know that pushing contestants to the limit is more interesting to viewers.
If you want to lose weight, you don’t have to go through the stress and strain that the contestants on these ‘game’ shows face. You can develop simple, low impact exercise routines that can slowly and healthfully ease you back into shape.
Go For A Walk
A great way to get into shape is to go for a walk – regularly. You need a good pair of sneakers that fit you well, but no other specialized equipment. Walking gives you a good all-round work out, as it uses almost every muscle in your body.
There is nothing nicer than walk in good weather. Whether you wander round the nieghborhood or head to the local park or beach, take advantage of the sunshine. Try to get a friend or neighbor to walk with you. Company makes the walk go much quicker, and you won’t realise the distance you’re covering the same way you would on your own. If the weather is inclement, head to the mall – not to shop – but to walk. Any large space will do, and if you can add in a few stairs, all the better.

At first glance, yoga may not look like much of a workout. It is, however, an excellent, low impact form of exercise that can get surprisingly intense as you progress. Buy a DVD to practice at home, or join a local class.
Keep Track of Your Food Intake
Just because you get on an exercise routine, doesn’t mean that you can now eat whatever you want whenever the mood strikes. You should pay attention to your portions and cut down on the items that we all know by now are bad such as sweet and greasy foods. This doesn’t mean that you can’t have a cookie if you really want one, but learn to eat only one. Don’t eat the whole bag.
