Essential Oils and Ayurveda: Ancient Wisdom for Modern Life

Share

is the oldest system of medicine that we . And the principles of can bring deep insights to help us understand and prescribe the use of oils in day .

Ayus means ‘life’ or ‘lifespan’, and Veda means ‘complete knowledge’. So Ayurveda is complete knowledge about life, and about health and how to maintain it.

The central tenet of Ayurveda is that health is a natural state of life — a state of balance. So health becomes disrupted when imbalances accumulate. Therefore it aims to detect early accumulation of imbalances in the system, and prevent them from developing into symptoms by using a variety of methods. In this way, Ayurveda is primarily preventive in its outlook.

One of these approaches is through massage, which is highly rated in Ayurveda. Massage is recommended in terms of daily self-massage (you can try a self massage using warm natural sesame oil every morning before taking a shower; some people notice massive benefit continue through the day, particularly if they suffer from poor circulation), and also using macerated oils in specific treatment regimes.

This is very similar in outlook and approach to our approach to aromatherapy, which uses essential oils blended into a ‘carrier oil’ (vegetable oil), so let’s see what our modern understanding can learn from the approach.

According to Ayurveda there are three principles (doshas) that operate in the physiology and in Nature: vata, pitta, and kapha.

Vata governs the function of the nervous system, and is quick, light, cold, rough, moving. People who have a strong vata constitution tend to walk quickly, talk quickly, listen quickly (so they may interrupt you before you’ve finished your sentence). They tend to be of thin build, frequently very bright and alert. When they become imbalanced, this may lead to anxiety, worry, restlessness, insomnia, and also cold hands and feet. They would tend towards dry , and dry skin.

Pitta is hot and sharp, and governs metabolism and digestion. People with a preponderance of pitta tend to have energy, ambition, and drive. Because pitta is hot, they suffer less from cold; but on the other hand may tend to overheat in the summer, and may suffer from skin disorders.

Kapha has the qualities of heavy, cold, oily and stable. Kapha people tend to have large framed bodies, and may put on weight rather easily. The hair is thick, lustrous, and they are often very attractive physically. They frequently exude feelings of stability, peace, and contentment. But when out of balance, kapha leads to a lack of flexibility, inertia and lack of enthusiasm.

A qualified ayurvedic practitioner will be able to determine the relative balance of vata, pitta and kapha to a great degree of accuracy by using pulse diagnosis.

However the simple description above should be able to help us to quickly recognize which essential oils could be indicated.

For someone with a vata imbalance, we want to provide ease, ease and comfort, reducing agitation and excess mental activity. So we should be on the lookout for oils that are sweet, warming, soft, stabilising. Try Sweet Orange, Ylang Ylang, Vetiver, Sweet Basil, Jasmine, Ginger, Frankincense, Patchouli.

For a pitta type, we will be looking for cooling oils. So think in terms of Mint oils, True Lavender, Rose, Sandalwood, and German Camomile.

Remember that kapha is heavy and oily, so we should be looking for essential oils that are light and will cut through that quality. Think in terms of the confers (pines, firs, spruces), Black Pepper, Tea Tree, Rosemary Verbenone, and Lemon.

It goes without saying that the areas of both ayurveda and essential oils are immensely detailed; and either could take a lifetime of study. Yet the principles are simple and have a commonsense value. And best of all, they are easy to apply.

Aloe Vera Gel For Acne Questions Answered

Share

William asks…

for acne?

I have been recommended to use aloe vera gel to treat my acne. I’ve decided to find out how to use aloe vera gel for my acne and the results of it before buying aloe vera gel. Have tried using aloe vera gel to treat her acne? Can you please share with me how you applied the aloe vera gel? Do you wash it off in the morning after you apply it at night or do you have other ways of applying it? Thanks! :D

Chloe Adisson answers:

6 things must be done EVERYDAY to reduce/prevent acne: 1)Wash, Tone, Moisturize Face 2 or 3 Times 2)Don’t Let Dirty Things Touch Face 3)Eat Healthy Food, Limit Junk Food 4)Take Multi Vitamin Mineral 5)Drink About 64 oz Pure Water 6)Do 20 to 30 Min Aerobic Exercise. Doing 1 or a few of these will NOT keep skin clear as possible!

Use 3 things on face: Wash, Toner, Moisturizer. Do this at least 2x a day, morning & night (possibly 3rd time, midday, if super oily/sweating). Products that work for one person may not work for another person, so always do small patch test on face for a couple of days to see how skin will react to product! Don’t quickly jump from product to product! Give skin a break before trying new product to prevent irritation! & gentle products are sometimes more effective than acne medicine!

NATURAL & GENTLE: Wash face with warm water & Purpose Gentle Cleansing Bar by Johnson & Johnson. Tone face with Witch Hazel (Thayers or Dickinson’s) or Homemade Toner. Witch Hazel reduces bacteria/swelling, minimizes pores, helps acne. Make toner by mixing 1 part With The Mother (Try Bragg) with 5 parts pure water. Test small area! If burns/to drying, use more water! Use at least 1 part water! Less Water = Stronger, More Drying Formula. This vinegar kills bacteria, absorbs excess oil, dries out pimples, lightens scars, refines skin tone. Don’t use other types of vinegar, will not work! Moisturize face with Lily Of The Desert Aloe Vera Gelly, its 99% organic, contains vitamin A, C, E! Aloe vera helps renew skin cells, heals blemishes/scars. Don’t use other brands of aloe, has very little aloe & to much junk in it which can irritate skin!

ACNE MEDICINE: Try 1 of these active ingredients for a period of time to see if skin improves: Benzoyl Peroxide, Salicylic Acid, Sulfur, Alpha Hydroxy Acid, Beta Hydroxy Acid, Lactic Acid, Glycolic Acid. Try acids by Perfect Peel Solutions, Cellbone Technology, Skin Laboratory, Alpha Hydrox/Neoteric Cosmetics. Acid heals acne, cyst, scars! If over the counter stuff doesn’t work, see doctor to get stronger medicine.

FACE PRODUCTS & MAKEUP: Only use oil free products that won’t clog pores & cause acne! Try Revlon ColorStay Combination/Oily Skin Foundation. Using a Makeup Setting Spray (Skindinavia, Model In A Bottle, Urban Decay, Sephora) will give you shine-free skin all day! Old makeup, makeup tools harbor bacteria, Use fresh makeup, wash/replace tools often! Wash makeup off face before going to bed!

FACE MASK can be done once a week. Make mask by mixing plain oatmeal with water. Oatmeal is soothing, absorbs excess oil, makes skin smoother. Wash face with warm water, apply mask. Leave on for 30 min. Rinse off with warm water, Apply toner & moisturizer.

HANDS--STUFF: Keep dirt & bacteria at bay to prevent breakouts! Don’t touch face with hands, Don’t let phone nor dirty oily touch face, Don’t lean face on objects, Clean glasses often, Wash pillowcase, sheets, blanket, washcloth, towel often. Always wash hands before applying face products!

KEEP MOVING: Aerobic Exercise, Face Massage, Dry Skin Brushing increases circulation & delivery of nutrients to skin cells, encourages good blood supply, helps remove toxins, controls acne breakouts! Do 20to30 min of exercise, everyday or every other day! For outstanding results, do all 3 activities, everyday! When exercising, drink water & immediately take a shower to remove sweat & dirt! For face massage, wash hands & face, apply toner, use aloe vera as massage gel. Do 10 min massage before going to bed. Don’t wash face again, let aloe dry on face. Buy any book on face massage (Ten Minute Facelift by Jennie Harding). Dry Skin Brushing must be done correctly & carefully, read book, Dr. Berkowsky’s Vital Chi Skin Brushing System by Bruce Berkowsky! Never brush delicate face! Take shower after brushing to wash off dead skin & dirt!

DIET & LIFESTYLE: Research has shown that there is a connection between certain kinds of food & acne! Read book The by Alan C. Logan & Valori Treloar! This book has detailed info on what to eat and not to eat to help reduce/prevent acne! Always eat healthy food – fruit, vegetables, lean meat, fiber, beans, wholegrains, foods rich in omega 3 fatty acids, zinc, vitamin A & C. Limit intake of frozen meals, dairy, milk, fat, oil, butter, greasy/fried foods, sugar, candy, salt, dessert, caffeine, coffee, pop, alcohol. Always avoid cigarettes, tobacco, illegal drugs! Its hard to get all vitamins minerals skin needs, so take supplement everyday! Overdosing on vitamins minerals from food or supplements is dangerous! Drinking about 64 oz of pure water everyday improves skin quality, flushes out toxins, delivers nutrients to skin! You can also include 100% Fruit Juice as part of your daily total. Acne can be caused or aggravated by constipation, make sure bow movements are regular! Getting enough sleep helps skin repair itself!

Helen asks…

?

Ok so i bought a moisturizing aloe vera facial gel that’s 98% Aloe Vera. I have some acne that i’m currently using medication from the doctor for. I want to use the aloe vera gel to help get rid of some of the scars and as a moisturizer seeing how dry the medication makes my skin. I’m just wondering if it will cause anymore acne?

Chloe Adisson answers:

The aloe vera will just dry out ur skin and acne!

James asks…

?

On the back of the bottle it say “aloe Vera gel cools and soothes minor skin irritations, abrasions, and sunburns. This blend of Aloe Vera Gel helps restore moisture to damaged skin and helps prevent drying and peeling. Great for softening and nourishing skin year round.” Can i use this for my acne? If i can how would? like how often and all that? on the front it just says ” Aloe Vera Gel, moisturizes and soothes dry, sun damaged skin” don’t no if that helps or not but please help!

Chloe Adisson answers:

It’s great for acne if you’re not allergic to it. Most people aren’t – it’s an ingredient in most organic skin products. If you’re allergic to onions, garlic, or tulips, that would be an indicator of an aloe vera allergy.
As for application, apply just enough so your skin feels moist, use morning and night as with any other moisturizer.

Sandra asks…

aloe vera gel for acne?

hey i have heard that aloe vera gel is great for acne but im not sure if i should buy the product or not.
does it reduce redness and marks? i have mild acne but does it make the acne worse? like more pimples?
thanks!

Chloe Adisson answers:

Don’t put it specifically on pimples. If you have one that you picked at and its dry and flaky, it seems to work pretty ok at helping that. Putting it directly on festering pimples would make them worse. Or it did for me, anyways.

Laura asks…

aloe Vera gel for acne/acne scars?

i just need a simple answer don’t tell me about some other product that works great all i want to is does aloe vera gel work on acne and acne scars? and if a constantly use it will it lessen the amount of acne?
p.s i use the real plant gel

Chloe Adisson answers:

Aloe vera pulp is good for digestive organs & as well as it retains the moisture of the skin .If you are asking about prevention of acne by using it alone , My answer probably may be or not . Acne problem is due to hormonal imbalance & disturb immune system of the body.
Aloe vera alone can not can improve both of the above.
As you have restricted to answer more other than aloe vera.So I finish here.

Hcg Diet Drops Questions Answered

Share

James asks…

What kind of lotion can i use while taking the hcg diet drops.?

I it has be a certain kind but I need names cuz I can’t seem to find any that fit the description

:

HCG was banned by the FDA last month as a fraudulent product for weight loss.
It doesn’t matter which brand, they are all out there just to take your money so it doesn’t matter which lotion you use.

Steven asks…

hCG diet drops, questions about losing weight?

Ok, i’m 18, 5′ 6″ and I weigh 180, I’m wanting to lose 40lbs.. If i take the hcg drops do the 500 calorie diet, and i’m lifting weights and walking. How much weight will I be able to lose in the first week??

Has had success with doing the drops?

Chloe Adisson answers:

According to the “protocol” for this diet you are supposed to do minimal exercise with such a low caloric intake.
A 500 calorie per day diet is considered anorexic. Mix it with a hormone from pregnant women’s urine and you get a miracle diet!
All over the counter hcg products were announced as illegal and fraudulent by the FDA on January 24, 2011. Testing concluded that all over the counter oral and injection products on the market have little to no real hcg in them but most a similar synthetic hormone. I was in GNC two weks ago. They carry three brands of hcg drops and not one of them has any hcg in them. The well trained salesman even admitted it when I mentioned it. They contained “similar hormones” or amino acids.
Anyone that lost weight especially with the drops did it because they ate fewer calories than they burned. The hcg acted as the placebo to help them lose the weight.
The only approved use for hcg is to increase fertility in both men and women.
Next year will mark 60 years since this fraudulent science was started.
The doctors exploiting this benign hormone with the ability to prescribe injections can’t even agree on how it works. Some say it releases stored fat calories into the system. Others say it acts as an appetite suppressant.
Neither explanation justifies the weight loss in the individuals taking the oral drops with NO hcg in them that still lost weight. I am confident the hcg diet has a 95% failure rate just like every other controversial diet plan out there.
By the way, the expensive “clinical injections” are not covered by insurance since it is not FDA approved. What doctor wouldn’t want to get an “all cash” practice going?
Check out these clips before going further. Just aired a few months ago.

So the question is are you willing to risk your health with an extreme diet treatment based on testimonial evidence as opposed to clinical research evidence, and the statements from doctors in this all cash business?

David asks…

What would happen if you drank soda or milk with the hcg diet drops?

Chloe Adisson answers:

Why are you drinking soda if you are diabetic?
Please throw the bogus HCG drops out thank you.

Joseph asks…

What lotion is it ok to use while using the hcg diet drops?

My sister said lotion wasn’t even necessary but I have really dry skin I need the name of any lotion that I can use

Chloe Adisson answers:

I’m doing the HCG diet right now following the 21 Day program from http://prohcgdiet.com As per the instruction I got, you can use lotion and make up during the HCG protocol. With all of your personal and beauty products, you need to check the ingredients and avoid any products the food oils. Most solid deodorants castor oil, which is not allowed…. Currently I am using Pantene products for the . I changed my lotion to Neutrgena oil free face lotion but use this for hand and body lotion as well. I changed my soap to liquid Zest. I did not change my shave gel either. No issues that I can see and I get all products at Wal-Mart.

Donald asks…

HCG diet drops. Is there a difference in strength cause on ebay theres lots of different prices?

Chloe Adisson answers:

Better no to waste your money.
“500-calories per day is severely restrictive! In fact, it is not enough calories to support normal brain function. Your body will compensate by using stores of glycogen, protein (muscle) and some fat, which lowers your resting metabolism. Before you can lose true weight, you will be so irritable, lightheaded, and cranky that you’ll reach for whatever food you can get your hands on and have a field day.

There is no scientific evidence supporting HCG as a weight loss strategy. The FDA has required all marketing and advertising of HCG to state the following: “HCG has not been demonstrated to be effective adjunctive therapy in the treatment of obesity. There is no substantial evidence that it increases weight loss beyond that resulting from caloric restriction, that it causes a more attractive or ‘normal’ distribution of fat, or that it decreases the hunger and discomfort associated with calorie-restricted diets.”

Chloe Adisson answers:

Nancy asks…

Is Lily of the Desert ?

I it’s a dietary supplument and all..
But it’s 99.5% aloe vera..
Anybody know if this will help acne or make it worse?

Chloe Adisson answers:

Most of the commercial Aloe Vera products are so diluted that they are of little use to the body. Acne is primarily due to dysbiosis of the intestines and that is due to bad digestion that is rampant in the U.S. Today. The skin acts like a 3rd kidney and when you get lots of toxins building up in the intestines, you get the booby prize. It typically starts from your mom being very nutrient deficient in pregnancy and overloaded with toxins like mercury from her amalgam fillings that she passes onto the fetus through her umbilical cord to you and you end up toxic as a result and nutritionally deficient. If she doesn’t breast feed, you don’t get good immunity and then you get the VACCINATIONS that pollute your blood to the point where you simply don’t have a chance to build good immunity.

Now, you take an antibiotic to “kill the germs” (thank you doctor) and this kills the good bacteria in your intestines that make up 75% of your immune system you have already not developed well. You get the booby prize of getting ACNE. Then biofilms are produced that keep you from really getting rid of the acne and you use those typical topical creams and lotions that help control it somewhat, but they just keep coming back.

Acne is just one of many things the average American will suffer from as they age due to the garbage food being eaten and the bad advice from the so called “experts” that have no clue what they are talking about. Meanwhile, you suffer, believing those guys know what they are talking about.

The highest quality Aloe Vera product you can buy is called, “Aloe Arborescense.” This product is concentrated and contains other things that will clean up ALL the mucus membranes in the body like nothing else. It really works. But you also need to fix your diet, take the Aloe, and go after those biofilms with some very special herbs.

Good luck to you

John asks…

Does using Aloe Vera Gel help acne?

I am using Hawaiian Tropic Aloe Vera gel for acne on my face. What do you think?

Chloe Adisson answers:

Aloe Vera Gel has been used for centuries both the skin and other ailments.

Aloe Vera consists of ingredients such as gibbenelin and polysaccharides, that stimulate the skin and help with healing acne affected areas.

There are Acne-Aloe-Vera solutions that can help with healing and further prevention of skin problems affecting both adults and teens. Aloe Vera treatments may be used topically to restore skin that has become inflammed and have been proven to help those afflicated with skin problems improve their condition and promote healing of scar tissue formed by excessive swelling. Scar tissue left on the face or upper body can be improved by use of Aloe Vera gel.

Aromatherapy Scents Questions Answered

Share

Linda asks…

What are some scents to use for postpartum depression?

:

Get yourself a good b complex vitamin that will help tremendously

Sandy asks…

What are some good aromatherapy scents for a man?

Chloe Adisson answers:

Let’s see… Geranium, lime (excellent), Amyris, hint of cedar (can be sensitizing), fir, jasmine, any of the woody or deeply scented tones.

I love a man in oil, wow. Lime with geranium and just a hint of jasmine, so nice… But not for a girl.

Donald asks…

Which aromatherapy scents are best for people who want to lose weight?

Chloe Adisson answers:

Really sweet ones, like Ylang Ylang. Vanilla smell also helps to curb sweet cravings. However aromatherapy is not designed to do this, get a decent diet, and once our diet is well balanced and when you got your nutritional status up, you should not crave sweets any more. Then you can start to reduce your serving sizes, not changing the composition of your diet, only the quantity, and the weight should reduce. Do not say “lose weight” because then subconsciously will look for it till you find it again (and put it back where it was)

Sharon asks…

What are the aromatherapy scents?

Well I want to get some candles but I that like different scents work for different things like for example some scent = stress relief. Stuff like that and I want alot of scents for alot of different things. If you know any could you please help me. Thanks for reading!
-Nat
