No one wants to use something that won’t work, and you must educate yourself about herbs before you will know how to pick the best for your situation.

Herbs can also be used to curb your appetite. This is very important when you are trying to cut back on the amount of food you eat. Anyone can tell you that dieting is very hard work when you are still hungry. Let herbal diet pills help! By using herbs to curb your hunger, dieting will become easier. It’s always easier to say “no” to that chocolate cake desert when you are feeling full. While there are no “magic” herbal diet pills that will do all of the work for you, you can make weight loss easier by using herbs that will help you. There are many resources available to find the correct herbs for you. Take a trip to your library to go through some books on herbs. Try an internet search on forum groups that discuss herbs. There may even be a local dietician that you can call or set up an appointment with to discuss your desire to use herbs in your weight loss plan.

Anti-Aging Skin Care Regimen

Share

What is all this talk about anti-aging skin care using methods?  Anti-aging has been around since the dawn of time. Ponce De Leon looked for the fountain of youth in St. Augustine, Florida.  We all want to keep a youthful appearance. Our skin is the most obvious evidence of aging. As we age, the inevitable effects of sun, environmental conditions and lifestyle begin to take their toll on the skin.

So what can we do? Here are some anti aging skin care secrets you can put to work today. The key to our strategy is to proactively slow aging.

Herbalists use a holistic, or whole body approach, when building an anti aging skin care strategy. The idea is that the apparent problem is usually only a symptom, not the cause. This is particularly the case in problems of the skin. By treating the underlying causes of aging skin, you can actually add years to your life.

In the natural process of aging, skin loses elasticity, gravity pulls loose skin downward, and wrinkles appear. This process can be significantly slowed, and even reversed.

Good nutrition is essential to any anti aging skin care program. It’s difficult to get all the nutrients your body needs for optimum health through diet alone. Supplements are often necessary to ensure adequate nutrition.
There are many herbs and nutrients we can use to restore and maintain healthier and more youthful looking skin.

If your health allows, a short-duration juice fast can work wonders for your skin. Research shows that a short fast activates a specific gene that repairs DNA. Reducing calories has a similar effect.

Folic acid is a B vitamin that acts to slow aging. You can also buy Resveratrol, a molecule contained in red wine, as a supplement. Resveratrol has been shown to reverse aging, as recently published in Scientific American. Folic acid and resveratrol act in much the same way. Other important nutrients in any anti aging skin care program are Vitamins A, C, E and zinc. These, in correct proportions and quantity, will restore elasticity and a supple, softer appearance to the skin.

Vitamin E oil can be applied topically to crows feet, forehead, lip lines, and other problem areas with remarkable results. The easiest method is to pierce the Vitamin E gel cap and squeeze.

About Herbs and Its Use

Share

There is a great tradition in different cultures around the world about the use herbs, for their flavor in cooking and for their healing properties for the mind and body. The monks and nuns in early England were amongst the first people in the West to learn about herbs. They experimented with herbalism in their gardens and soon became experts in dispensing the appropriate treatment.

It’s important when learning about the usage of herbs for medicinal purposes, to choose the correct dosage and to make sure of the purity of the herb. Many people who don’t know about herbs think that they are completely harmless because they grow naturally. This is not true, as herbs can have side effects just as much as drugs can if not administered correctly.

If you are not sure about herbs, seek advice and go to a licensed herbal practitioner. This is particularly important if you are pregnant, breastfeeding or receiving treatment by drugs. Taking both a and a drug can double up on components and flood the body too much.

The use of herbs and their effects is well documented. A lot of medical professionals from conventional backgrounds are beginning to give herbal remedies more respect as they learn more about herbs. The Chinese have already had herbal medicine as part of their everyday treatment for a very long time. Different ailments have their own treatment solutions, with many herbs duplicating each other.

Aloe Vera is a multi purpose herb, treating many ailments including arthritis, acne, warts, and allergic reactions. Lavender can also help with arthritis. Nigella Sativa (Black Cumin), is another herb that is used for a variety of patients, treating influenza, stomach ache, and pulmonary infections. St. John’s Wort (one of the more dangerous herbs in incorrect doses), has been tested in medical trials for the treatment of mild to moderate levels of depression. Results showed that the herb performed better than a placebo.

A lot of people suffer from acute insomnia but don’t want to take sleeping pills. In studies about herbs, it’s been found that Valerian root is a good alternative and doesn’t cause drowsiness in the morning. General fatigue can be helped by periwinkle or dandelion. Periwinkle can also ease the symptoms of the menopause, as can fennel.

Many gardeners get a lot of pleasure from growing a herb garden, providing wonderful scents and flavor for the pot. A stock of mint, basil, oregano, sage, thyme, and parsley will give you the basic supply needed for most dishes. Add some rosemary and chives and you’re well set up. You’ll have fun learning all about herbs and their uses in the kitchen, whether you follow advice in cookery books or do some experimenting of your own.

“Old Fashioned” Home Remedies That Work

Share

Despite progress we always have those among us who believe the "old fashioned" home remedies or products are better. It has to be said that in some instances they are correct. Sadly, with each passing generation, some of this old fashioned wisdom disappears.

Progress is so contemporary and so closely a part of our daily lives that we sometimes fail to recognize that we, ourselves, may fail to recognize the benefits of old fashioned home remedies. Things that we would have considered very modern because we witnessed their creation only a few years ago may already be "old fashioned" to high school students.  In the medical world, treatment that might have been popular for a disease in 1986 may be completely outmoded in 2006. Even medical discoveries of the 1990′s may be old fashioned today.

However, over the years, and for generation after generation, a great number of old fashioned home remedies for many illnesses have managed to stay alive. They have been passed down from elders to youngsters in each country throughout the world. Many of them are strikingly similar although they may have originated on separate continents among completely alien peoples.

This area of medicine is commonly called "folk medicine." Few people will have failed to have come into contact with this term at one time or another. Usually folk medicines are the "old fashioned home remedies, the cure that "Grandma used"; the wisdom of the oldster who remembers when "My old friend Betty would have died if they hadn’t used that old remedy! Yes sir, even the doctor had to admit it worked."

Periodically there seems to be a revival in folk medicine. We appear to be now experiencing such a time as more people are becoming concerned, not only about the high cost of medicine, but also the increasing discoveries of side effects.

Basically most folk medicine is closely associated with herbs, food, oils, minerals and components found in any household. Techniques and methodology of folk medicine are especially adaptable to home use.  One such home remedy is raw apple cider vinegar and honey in water served as tea will decrease acid reflux.  Is this true?  Well my husband tried it.  He made this raw apple cider vinegar and honey tea every night and he said it definitely decreased the symptoms.  I’m I saying stop taking your medication, of course not but it worked for my husband.

It is not difficult to understand how many of these "old fashioned" home remedies and treatments originated and why they were popular. Among pioneers and peoples where doctors were few and far between, or nonexistent, medical aids were the products of experience and necessity. People used what they had at hand. Sometimes what they "had at hand" are still used by our most modern medical experts.

For instance, over two centuries ago an English woman herb doctor used a concoction of over twenty herbs to treat symptoms of dropsical. Dr William Withering of Shropshire in England became interested in her success and, after considerable research, concluded that the foxglove in her treatment was the answer to her success. Medicine, derived from foxglove, is still considered an excellent treatment.

Nature has given us many old fashioned home remedies, with little or no side effects. I am sure, with more research in this area, she would be more than willing to give up more of her healing remedies.
