Question by Blair R: How much carrier oil should I use to dilute essential oils for a plastic container?
I am planning on formulating a body spray and was wondering what percentage of carrier oil to use in order to the dilute the essential oils so that they do not degrade the plastic containers. I realize that glass is my best bet but it is generally more expensive and can break. Thanks!

I generally avoid using plastic containers for products containing essential oils. Even when diluted, they can, depending on the other ingredients, still react with the plastic container. Glass may be a little more expensive, but as they do not react with the contents, which I think it gives a better result.
Body sprays generally have a water or alcohol base rather than a carrier oil. Essential oil does not fully dissolve in water, so some will definitely remain to react with the plastic. Essential oils do dissolve in alcohol, but a pure alcohol base would be very bad for your skin!
I would suggest instead using the essential oils in carrier oil to make a massage or body oil rather than a spray – use between 1 and 2 ml of essential oil in every 100ml of carrier oil.
(And please invest in some glass bottles rather than plastic – it really is worth it!)
