Extraction Methods for Essential Oils

Share

For centuries, civilizations have sought to capture the benefits of plants. The fragrant, yet therapeutic, attributes endowed to each plant by the Lord have captivated ladies by their smell, scientists by their chemistry, and connoisseurs of medical alternatives by their ability to strengthen health. The proper of an oil’s volatile properties, that which causes an oil to smell and have inhalation benefits, is crucial to maintaining an oil’s integrity and potency. There are four types of : expression, solvent , CO2 and distillation.

The very environmentally friend method of expression is simply a pressing of the plant material (as in citrus rinds) to ‘express’ tiny pockets of oil within. The resulting oil is called an essence. Expressed essential oils are the most volatile, or what aromatherapists refer to as the top note in a blend because they are smelled first. These oils are often high in anti-oxidant and therefore evaporate quickly.

On the other end of the extraction spectrum are those oils that are solvent extracted. This costly method bathes the plant material in a solvent that extracts its volatile parts. Solvent extraction is mostly done on flower petals such as that of a rose or jasmine which may be too delicate for the heat or steam and pressure required in the other . High temperatures are used to evaporate the solvent bath and a crystallized fragrant substance is left. The oil created from this crystallized substance, called an absolute, is often more pricey due to the miniscule amounts of oils obtained from the process as well as the cost of the process itself. Occasionally solvents are used to finish the distillation process.

The new kid on extraction’s block is CO2 extraction. Oils are rendered in this process very similarly to how coffee is decaffeinated. Low temperatures are used which makes is good for maintaining important oil aspects. But unfortunately the fact that oils are thicker and doesn’t smell or blend as they would far outweighs that positive point.

Distillation, the tried and true method has been around for 1000s of years. It is the most common. All plant material used (leaves, flower, stems, etc), the soil in which the plants are grown, the irrigation of those plants during growing phase, the harvesting of the plant at the right time of year, the packing of a distiller prior to distillation, and the monitoring of the sound of the steam during distillation area all important considerations in the distillation process. It is also an important consideration these days to take into account the seeds that are used. With the new hybrids and genetically modified organisms on the market today, we have very little history regarding the effect of these plants on our global ecology, regarding the effect of the oils that come from them, or regarding their abilities to heal as their time-honored counterparts.

Distillation pushes vaporized water through plant material releasing its precious oils. The oil and steam are separated as they travel through the process. The water is drained off and the remaining oil is retrieved. The temperature at which distillation occurs is very important to balance of chemicals within the oil. Minimal temperatures and pressures are best and effective temperatures vary from plant to plant. Distilling at high temperatures is cheaper and shortens distillation time for oil producers, but damages and essential oil’s chemical. This may result in a very fragrant but not therapeutic essential oil. This integral factor can render an oil completely ineffective therapeutically.

The shape of distiller is important. Most distillation units are domed, causing steam to flow back into material and causing the oil to lose its potency. Some distillation units are conical; these typically deliver a better grade oil. One type of distillation unit, originally designed by D. Gary Young, involves low-temperature, low pressure, and a spiral vortex of steam. Young asserts that distilling in this way encourages steam to rise up and out into a condenser preserving fragile essential oil components and giving them the most therapeutic effect.

After any extraction process, assessing an oil’s composition is very important so that the bottled oil is sure to hold the proper chemical constituents in the right proportions. Without this quality assurance the therapeutic effects a user is expecting cannot be ensured. This is done with a Gas Chromatograph (GC) and Mass Spectrometer (MS). Likewise, any adulteration of an oil (ie cutting it with carrier oils, alcohols, other solvents) decreases its effectiveness, increases health hazards, and takes away the beauty of using a completely natural substance to heal.

Allow the full benefit of unadulterated essential oil to find its place in your home and even medicine cabinet. Buy essential oils from distillers with whom you have relationships to ensure the highest quality. Stand amazed at what is contained in nature. The Creator has given us much to explore, extract, and enjoy!

Hcg Diet Side Effects Questions Answered

Share

James asks…

HCG Diet Difficulties & Health Effects?

I’ve read some fantastic testimonies on the success of this diet, yet what are the negative side effects? I’ve read things like putting baby lotion on will keep the fat on, and that on this diet you can’t drink milk. Has anyone researched the short- and long-term effects of this diet? How long has it been around and why is the weight loss so rapid?

Chloe Adisson answers:

Dietary supplements are poorly regulated in the US. They do not have to conform to the stringent standards applied to pharmaceuticals or food products by the FDA. The result of this absence of oversight has been a scammer’s dream and the scammers have made the most of it.

The scammers advertise their products in the usual way with commercial dot com websites. However, they also will publish blogs, reviews, scientific mock articles and white papers, and even scam stories so no matter where you look in the dot com part of the web you’ll find only good things about their products. The are very good at “gaming” the search engines so all you will find is what they want you to find. And, of course, they make sure these phony websites are not traceable to them. You can learn more by watching this CBS new video –> http://www.cbsnews.com/video/watch/?id=5196740n&tag=related;photovideo (you’ll have to sit through a quick commercial message first).

Anyone who believes there is an easy way to lose fat or add muscle should ask themself the following questions.

1. If there was an easy way to do hard things like burn fat or build muscle, why doesn’t the whole world know about it? How could that be kept secret when that’s what so many people desire?

2. If there were supplements that could help burn fat or build muscle, why haven’t the huge and powerful pharmaceutical companies taken it over? Why let the scammers like GNC and Weider continue to make $millions off the public when they have a much greater capacity for providing such products?

3. If there was a supplement that helped people shed pounds, why doesn’t your doctor know about it? If you’re overweight, why doesn’t your physician just give you the pill or recommend the acai or HCG diet or whatever? Why are physicians always telling the same story about obesity and how to cope with it?

4. Why do people pay big bucks to have liposuction or stomach stapling if supplements could really help them to lose fat?

There is only one good answer to all of these questions. Most of the supplements which are supposed to make you lose fat or add muscle just don’t work. It’s really that simple.

If you’re interested in burning fat or building muscle and you see a product which claims to help, be very skeptical. The golden rule for intelligent consumerism is still…

“If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.”

Now, about your HCG diet. When reviewing the research it seems obvious that HGC contributes nothing to fat loss and is no more than another “snake oil” scam. HCG contributes nothing to the diet and the diet alone, without the HCG, will work as well. Check the following excerpts from the US National Institute of Health…the place where the doctors get their information regarding health research.

“In recent publications describing mostly well-documented double-blind studies authors largely reject hCG administration in dieting. Supporters of the hCG diet must prove the efficacy of this method in controlled studies according to the German Drug Law. Until then the opinion of the German steroid toxicology panel is still valid, that hCG is ineffective in dieting and should not be used.”
Red: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/3609673

“Side effects were seen in 2 volunteers from the hCG group, 1 of whom suffered from severe headache and the other who suffered from ovarian cysts which were punctured by laparoscopy. The success of the diet was based on motivation and good information, rather than on the hCG administration. (author’s modified)”
Ref: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/3609673

“We conclude that there is no rationale for the use of HCG injections in the treatment of obesity.”

Thomas asks…

is the HCG diet a good diet to help aid in weight loss? and what is the best HCG diet?

i hear its good? does anyone know any side effects? is it ALL natural? and does it have any long term side effects? what is the best HCG DIET ive heard that there is a powder, and pills, give me all the advice you can, please and thank you so much

Chloe Adisson answers:

Dk. Oprah have tried every diet the best money can buy, look at her now.

People spend $20 billion per year on vitamins and supplements.  According to Everyday Health, here’s an article that will tell you why . . . Those PRODUCTS by any other name do NOT WORK.  It is false advertisements.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) doesn’t have to approve supplements — no agency in the United States does. So it’s up to consumers to bring health concerns to light. “It’s important to understand the difference between over-the-counter medications and dietary supplements,” say Pieter Cohen, MD, an internist at Cambridge Health Alliance and instructor at Harvard Medical School in Cambridge, Mass. The FDA gets involved only after the fact, if the supplement later appears to be causing harm. By that time, the supplement may already have harmed many consumers who used it. “The burden of proof is on the FDA to determine [a supplement] is dangerous and remove it from the market,” Cohen says. Consumer complaints are the primary trigger for investigations. One recent investigation of the dietary weight-loss supplement ephedra resulted in it being banned for sale in the United States.

Lizzie asks…

Is the hcg diet safe for men?

I know that hcg is produced by pregnant women, so is the hcg diet safe for men? I don’t want to have any side effects from it since I am a man, but I need to lose about 50 pounds.

Chloe Adisson answers:

I am a man and I did the drops from prohcgdiet.com and lost 16 pounds on the diet in 24 days. I did not have any side effects from the hormones, and no, I did not turn into a woman! The doses that you take of the hormone are so small that they do not cause any side effects. In fact, bodybuilders have been taking doses of the hormone for many years that are at least double the amount you take on the diet. Hcg will actually stimulate the production of testosterone in men, so instead you actually become more of a man in the process! Haha!

I would definitely recommend the hcg diet to men, especially since you can still retain all of your muscle mass while losing weight. For men, this is usually a problem that you try to lose weight and end up losing muscle, and then you put muscle back on and you put the weight back on. It’s a vicious cycle, but it does not happen on the hcg diet.

I still had plenty of energy on the diet and did not have that much trouble sticking to the 500 calories a day. I did plenty of research before I started the diet and found nothing about it not being safe for men. You can have the 50 pounds gone in 2-3 months if you follow the diet correctly.

Chris asks…

Does the HCG diet really work?

i am 19 years old, 5ft 4in and 151 pounds. i am classified as overweight and my mother really wants me to lose weight, as do i. i have tried other products before and nothing has worked. does the HCG diet work? and are there any serious side effects from it?

Chloe Adisson answers:

I have lose over 60lbs on the HCG Diet, bottom line it works! And it is very safe haven been used now for over 50yrs. Remember HCG is a naturally produced hormone created by the placenta and is present in every pregnant women at levels literally a thousand times higher than while on the HCG diet.

You can expect to lose .5-1.5lbs per day while on the diet, if and only if you stick exactly to the diet as written by its creator Dr. Simeons! Also, keep in mind that you need to have a plan to keep the weight off after completing the diet. One major advantage to the HCG diet is that is has built in benefits to help you keep the weight of but if you simply return to the way things were before you’ll eventually end up right back were you left off . . . Overweight.

Check out my sources for more info!

Donald asks…

How long after taking plan B can you still feel side effects?

Such as tender breasts and delay in period with mild cramps?

I took it 3 weeks ago and my breasts have been tender for about a week now. I also get very mild cramps, like I do sometimes just before getting my period. But the period is now nearly a week late. I’ve benn on the Hcg diet, so I can’t take a reliable pregnancy test until next monday. Are these symptoms normal or can I really be pregnant?

Chloe Adisson answers:

Well the first time I used the pill I dint had side effects, but the second time I did and it was just like you, I had those effects like for a month! My period dint came in 1 month but I wasn’t expecting a baby… So I think is normal but if I were you I would stop that diet… Just for 2 weeks… And eat more healthy food

Get Your Questions Answered About Herbal Treatment For Depression

Share

Robert asks…

for depression…..?

I have heard people say that there are some herbs that can help with depression if medications fail. I am wondering if anyone knows of any that will help… I know one they say is St. John’s wart… but does anybody know if there is any other than just that one? Any advice is appreciated!

Chloe Adisson answers:

Yeah there are some other herbal and food supplements for anxiety or depression which might be helpful for this condition. Like 5HTP, GABA, valerian root, passion flower & skullcap.
Get detailed info from following url:

Betty asks…

herbal remedy for depression/bi polar?

does anyone know a good herbal treatment for depression with bi polar. not though st johns wort. something else ?

Chloe Adisson answers:

Best to get a test that checks for nutritional deficiencies, heavy metal overload, alllergies and food intolerances.
The Orion Listen machine tests for these.
This machine can also check level of various neuro-transmitters.

It is no use plying your self with supplements on a hit or miss trial or error basis. It takes too long.
Also why treat the symptoms and not the cause

Kinesiology is also good.

Otherwise you are pissing in the wind.

Also to consider is dental health.
There are people who have been locked up withmental conditions only to find later that an internal abscess or other dental problem has been the real cause.

Physical exercise/work should never be avoided as well, as feel good chemicals are produced in the body when we move out bodies

Lisa asks…

Will herbal treatment still work on environmentally induced depression?

I have been becoming more and more depressed due to problems with work, boyfriend getting deployed, financial problems, etc etc. Everything is happening at once and people on here have recommended St. John’s Wart and SAMe (as I do not have money for a doctor and presription meds) I am wondering if it will work on me though, since I am pretty sure my problems stem from my situation and not actual chemical imbalances?

Chloe Adisson answers:

I would rely on a psychiatrist, not by a fly by night herbal remedy

Richard asks…

can marijuana be used in conjunction with st. john’s wort to treat depression?

Many people have said that standard SSRIs (prescription anti-depressants) have worked much better for them when they used weed in conjuction (combination) with it. so since st. john’s wort is said to work similar to an SSRI (because it blocks the reuptake of serotonin too), wouldn’t this logically mean that marijuana can be used (moderately) to enhance the anti-depressant effects of st. john’s wort too?

so overall it would be an effective herbal treatment for depression? ( st. john’s wort+marijuana )

Chloe Adisson answers:

If the many people say so.
Maybe ask those people. Better to ask a Dr. Than this forum!
Every one is different.

Daniel asks…

Can you help me to find some treatment for clinical depression and panic attacks?

I have been suffering for many years now. I am always dizzy, weak, whole body shivers, chest and heart always palpitates and panic attacks make me shiver always. I have been to many doctors and hospitals but they never treat me and now they say that i am out of my head
I am suffering and can you help me find some treatment for my condition, herbal, natural or any thing
thanks

Chloe Adisson answers:

I used to have panic attacks years ago. But no more. I went to my church elders and had the anoint my forehead with oil and pray for the panic attacks to go away. They did and the attacks stopped, but you must go to a God based, Bible based church where God is present. And believe me He is not always welcomed at some churches.
I used to have the same symptoms as you have, except I felt as if I were falling though a large tube and couldn’t reach the the walls to stop. I would break out into cold sweats and felt as if I were trapped on train tracks with a huge engine baring down on me with no way for me to escape. I would shake so hard that I could move enough chain link fence to make 25 dog runs. The doctor told me it was caused by extreme amounts of stress. I also was hyperventilating as well. That made it feel like a heart attack.
Since I don’t know if you believe in God, and He can put a stop to it. I will list below some places that might help some.

Bath Bombs – What Made Them So Popular?

Share

There were times when people used to dissolve sandalwood powder and other similar products to add aroma and effects to their baths. However, today the trend has changed today. Nowadays, things like bath and bath salts are used to make the bathing experience more relaxing and invigorating. This trend has grown enormously especially after the internet has invaded our lives. There are numerous suppliers of these products online who sell them at quite a cheap rate. So, who would mind to spend a few dollars to sensationalize their bathing time?

Due to the sudden boom in the demand, different types of such products are available today. You can get the milky ones, the herbal ones, homemade ones, etc. All of them are basically solid mixture form of ingredients such as citric acid, baking soda, etc. As soon as they are put into water, they dissolve adding color, aroma and of course bubbles to the bath tub. Some admirers of bath bombs also argue that these little balls are highly effective for relaxing the body and revitalizing it. Medically, it has been proven that bombs with oils and minerals can moisturize and revitalize the skin but to the minimal. Henceforth, it can be said that these products are good but they should not be used as an alternative to medications.

Today, even kids know what the fizzy little balls are. There are special ones available for kids which are made of soft soap, no acidic ingredients and lotion or creams at times. Again, bath bombs might not be extremely helpful in moisturizing the skin of your child but it for sure can make them love their bathing time. It is quite difficult to make a kid love his bathing time but with the help of these any mom can make her kid love the moment. This is another major reason of these products being in demand today.

As said earlier, the internet business trend has contributed much to the popularity. These products are also known as bath balls, tablets and ballistics especially by the online retailers. Not only this, after monitoring the heavy usage of these ballistics even pharmaceutical companies have started manufacturing them with added health benefits for the elderly and kids alike.

Ballistics and bath salts have also become a choice of many to be presented as gifts. Furthermore, even men today like using bath tablets with masculine scent.
