If you have to ask this question. That means something ain't right about it. Nothing beats maintaining a balanced diet and doing lots of exercise

I would do the shakes after any hard workout. For me anything that is longer than 30 min of mod high or HIIT, weights, etc. The easiest to do is Myoplex Lite for 170 cals and 25g of protein. It's already got some carbs in it.
You can also do EAS Carb Advantage shakes for 110 but I would do a 1/2 banana or something with it.
A lot of people worry that they are consuming their workout calories but to lose fat you have to quit eating for starvation or total pleasure and move to eating for your health and your lifestyle.

You should get a bulk of your protein from actual food. Any fat loss during this 30 days will probably come right back when you start eating food again… this isn’t sustainable.
