soy protein is protein derived from the soy bean… whey protein is protein derived from whey… protein would not make you fat unless you were overly consuming it… each type of protein has a different digestion rate and which one you need will depend on what you're taking it for and protein is protein… the only other thing that should be in your protein is flavor… if you're working out, you should take protein afterwards, maybe even before, but typically afterwards would be better
