Australia will always be remembered not only for the kangaroos, koalas and the its most famous landmark the Sidney Opera House, but for its contribution to the world of alternative medicine which is tea tree oil. This oil having a botanical name of Melaleuca alternifolia is native to Australia. Compared to other oil, it is relatively new and its uses were mostly harnessed during the 2nd world war. The aborigines of the great continent of Australia were the first to discover the uses of this now famous tree. And only recently studies were made regarding its uses and .

In Australia, virtually every home has a bottle or two of tea tree oil because of its innumerable uses. This pale yellow essential oil is said to be very effective when applied topically on the body. People with varied skin diseases are treated almost miraculously by this essential oil. It has a very potent antiseptic property that rids the body of its unwanted bacteria and viruses. In fact, it is also said that it is highly toxic to bacteria because it kills them at the very source and hindering them from growing and coming back. The very common pimple is normally remedied by benzoic peroxide. But this oil was shown in studies conducted to see its efficiency can cure better than the more famous benzoic peroxide.

Its uses for skin disorders and diseases are innumerable. It has become famous during the 2nd world war because many soldiers carry with them a bottle of tea tree essential oil because it was a very good first aid treatment for wounds. Infections, which are normal complications of wounds, are avoided with this essential oil. When used as a shampoo it can rid of the much dreaded lice because it kills them on contact. No wonder many shampoos have one of their components this oil. Same could be said for soaps and cosmetics that contain this now famous oil.

When use for massage, tea tree essential oil can help in the relaxation of the body. It can calm the nerves and free the mind of any unwanted thoughts that can cause stress. It’s almost minty and herbaceous aroma aid clearing the mind and spirit to be able to completely relax. Stress is best beaten when the whole body is contracted and the mind has no worries to think about. This wonder oil from down under will help in that aspect.
