I think the main issue is that they believe that scientifically verifiable information is the only valid type of information. They believe that disseminating any other type of information is a type of malpractice, and often a “snake oil” scam to hurt people. To them, homeopathic medicine is similar to allowing unlicensed doctors to practice medicine. But the key is that they think it is largely a scam to part innocent people from their money.

Well for one it isn’t as if this is all we do all the time.

It isn’t a waste of time to try to disuade people from taking water instead of chemotherapy for their cancer. It isn’t a waste of time trying to show that homeopathic preventatives for malaria don’t prevent malaria.

I honestly wouldn’t give homeopathy much more than a chuckle if they weren’t claiming to be able to cure diabetes thus leading people to stop taking insulin. That isn’t a waste of time at all. This is the type of thing that homeopaths are doing, too.

But I really only spend maybe 15 minutes a day on average answering questions.

The homeopathic practitioner parents of a child with eczema refused to have the disease treated in a standard manner. Because they preferred to eschew medicine because of their irrational beliefs about medicine their daughter died a painful death. I don’t see how trying to stop somethign like that from happenign again as being a waste of time. If you didn’t realize that homepathy had a body count you would not have asked that question. Pointing out this sort of thing to people like you who are unaware of teh hearm homeopathy can do also makes this a worthwhile task.

I want to know why questions disappear after the heat is turned on. Recent questions about “If homeopathy doesn’t work then” has vanished as far as I can tell. The questioner was referring to the use of homeopathic remedies in animals and how a placebo would not explain why animals have been helped by homeopathy. Answers reflected IMO a lack of thought when stated that animals don’t talk. Well, duh, they don’t talk with conventional medicine either. Anyways, where do questions go?
And I think the skeptics feel threatened financially or worry about their world view being shattered or truly believe that alternative practitioners really are just doing it for the money. Let me tell you the last is not the truth. Practitioners who think outside the box and go against the grain do it from conviction and a desire to help people experience a deeper kind of wellness. It is not an easy job. We spend a lot of time with people and share very deep experiences with them and we work for ourselves, hence there is no security but in results themselves.

Answering ignorance isn’t wasting time. Countering quackery with the truth isn’t wasting time. Frankly I think between the two of us, it’s you who’s wasting time ranting on something you yourself tell us you don’t care about. I’m a medical doctor and while I get paid for my services, I still see it as helping people. I also have a life, I have friends and family and hobbies. As pelops_d said, going in Y! Answers takes only minutes of my precious time.

Soul Doctor, don’t dare claim that only you have a monopoly on wanting to help people. You’re also very insulting with your baseless accusations. Show proof that skeptics are paid or shut up. You also have not answered any questions on homeopathy’s efficacy nor on it’s mechanisms of actions. until then expect me and the other skeptics to keep countering your nonsense.

I find it more interesting to discuss science than to discuss whether someone smells of onions, or can get pregnant through fingering… but, hey, that’s just me.
